The new green was a County Council smallholding, and when they had no obvious use for the land, the Parish Council first leased the field to create the green in 1999. Eventually the County was persuaded to sell the land to the Parish Council.
The purchase was funded partly by the Parish Council and partly by very generous donations from people in the village and from long-term loans. Most of the area was formally registered as a Village Green in 2013, so guaranteeing it as a green amenity space in perpetuity.
It has now become an enormous asset to the village, and new children’s play equipment was erected in 2016, again with generous funding from local people. It is a lovely green, open space for all to enjoy.
