Proposal for new 'Garden Town'

October 2018 update

Controversial plans to build a new town of 10,000 homes in mid Norfolk were dealt a final blow as councillors voted not to back the proposal ahead of a government deadline.  But at a full council meeting in Dereham on 25th October councillors almost unanimously voted not to support the plans at this time.  Click the link below for the EDP report:

Background

You may have seen in the 21st July edition of the EDP that a company called Lanpro is proposing the building of a new settlement to be situated between the villages of North Elmham, Billingford and Bintree.

This proposal, in no further detail other than the headline, came to the attention of the Parish Council on 12th July.  An emergency meeting of representatives of North Elmham and all other affected PCs was held on 18th July with Gordon Bambridge, the member for Upper Wensum.  We were told that Breckland Council had no more information than us at that stage and we were all united in pressing hard to obtain more detail.

The Parish Council had a further working party meeting on 25th July in order to compose an initial formal response to Breckland.  Once the wording of this response has been agreed, it will be sent to Breckland and to George Freeman, our MP.  It will also be posted on this website.  In the meantime, parishioners are invited to address any views they may have directly to Breckland and to George Freeman (George.freeman.mp@parliament.uk or 8 Damgate Street, Wymondham, NR18 0BQ) and, of course, to the PC.

Jennie Borgnis

Chair, North Elmham Parish Council

A Local Action Group 'Campaign Against the New Town' (CANT) has been formed.  Updates will be posted here as they are available.
