May Singers

Usually held on the fourth Monday monthly at the Eastgate Centre, Eastgate Street at 7.30pm.

Below is a short track of some of the sort of music that we sing.  We learn songs by ear and there is no need to be able to read music so it is accessible to everyone.

The May Singers have been going for over six years now. We consider ourselves a community singing group, not a choir. Our aim is to provide the opportunity for people to get together in a friendly, sociable environment to share the enjoyment of singing together.

We employ trained teachers who help us sing songs in harmony and rounds. Our regular teacher is Natasha Hood who creates a lovely atmosphere and brings the best out of us.

We sing traditional songs from around the world and contemporary material written for groups like ours. We enjoy doing seasonal songs which for instance welcome the Spring or the arrival of the cuckoo.

We encourage you come and join us for an enjoyable evening. Cost is £5 per session, £8 couples and £2 for juniors.

Our Christmas party is the highlight of the year when we have food to share and finish the evening with some entertaining party pieces. Some photos from a previous May Singers' Christmas Party:
